The Ashanti Region has hosted the maiden National Conference and Workshop of the Forum of Assistant Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (FAHASS). The national conference brought together Assistant Heads from Senior High Schools (SHSs), Senior High Technical Schools (SHTSs) and STEM Schools from across Ghana.
The four-day conference was held from Thursday, 3 September to Sunday, 6 September 2026 at Opoku Ware School (OWASS), Kumasi, under the theme “Resetting 2nd Cycle Education for Quality Learning Outcomes: The Role of Assistant Heads.”
The programme was graced by the Deputy Director-General of the Ghana Education Service in charge of Management Services, Prof. (Mrs.) Smile Gavua Dzisi, and the Ashanti Regional Director of Education, Dr. William Kwame Amankrah Appiah, alongside other education-sector stakeholders and members of FAHASS.
Addressing participants, Prof. (Mrs.) Smile Gavua Dzisi advised Assistant Heads to remain committed to the task of producing morally upright and academically brilliant learners.
For his part, Dr. William Kwame Amankrah Appiah thanked the Assistant Heads for their dedicated service to Ghana and acknowledged the sacrifices they sometimes make in the discharge of their duties, including sacrifices that may come at the expense of their personal and family happiness.
The conference featured sessions and discussions on effective leadership in school systems, school effectiveness, governance, health and wellness, welfare, and promotion and retirement transition, among other issues.
