New fathers within the Ghana Education Service are entitled to paternity leave.
Under the GES Collective Agreement for Teaching Staff, a male employee whose wife is expecting a child is entitled to a maximum of five (5) working days of paternity leave, subject to the applicable requirements.
The employee is required to produce a certificate or medical report issued by a qualified medical practitioner or midwife indicating the expected date of confinement of his wife.
Paternity leave is granted in addition to the employee’s annual leave entitlement.
Know your entitlement. Apply through the appropriate administrative channels when eligible.
